The changing body: how to know about the pelvic floor

During pregnancy the whole body prepares for childbirth and with it also a group of muscles that not everyone knows: they are the muscles of the pelvic floor, also called perineum.

These muscles are very important and have different functions:

  • allow good continence
  • ensure good circulation
  • act as a support for the pelvic and abdominal organs
  • give a satisfying sexuality
  • support the weight of the baby during pregnancy
  • accompany the birth of the newborn during birth.

Having elastic and toned tissues will be of great help to both the mother and the unborn child when the time comes to cross the birth canal. In fact, an elastic perineum allows better dilation and easier release of the baby.
