Study of blood disorders with altered coagulation mechanism
The research team deals with both hemorrhagic and thrombotic diseases, congenital or acquired, including hemophilia, rare coagulation defects, platelet disorders and von Willebrand disease, venous thrombosis, arterial thrombosis and thrombotic microangiopathies, and complement diseases. In addition, there is a line of research concerned with the standardization of laboratory methods.
In particular, the molecular basis and pathophysiological mechanisms of coagulopathies, risk factors contributing to their development, optimization of their medical therapy and reduction of complications, to gene therapy are studied. Research is conducted from genetic/genomic, biochemical, proteomic, cell biology, bioinformatics, as well as epidemiological and clinical perspectives.
The group is also engaged in intensive clinical research oriented particularly toward the testing of innovative drugs for the treatment of hereditary coagulopathies. The research group in recent years has been working on phase I, II and III clinical trials and new therapies in both hemorrhagic and thrombotic areas. with participation in clinical trials. Of particular note are studies on gene therapy for the treatment of hemophilia.
