IL POLICLINICO: MILANO E IL SUO OSPEDALE
The Policlinico, as it appears today, was born, in 1891, as an extension of the old
building of the Ospedale Maggiore of Milan, better known by the name of Ca' Granda.
Apart from the contribution of Henrico Ronzani, now unobtainable, dated 1937, at that time it
was missing a history of the work so, the volume fills this gap.
The book reconstructs and repeats, in a concise yet comprehensive, the story of the pavilions facing
simultaneously the profiles of the benefactors who have enabled the building with donations and bequests,
the building features and the medical specialties that have found home.
Thanks to careful consultation of archival sources and literature has developed into a “guide” to help move
easily in over a century Milanese and Italian.
A story, the Polyclinic Hospital, which is bound up and identified with the story of Milan since its origin:
one of the characters involved in the events stand out several actors in the Lombard scene at the end of nineteenth
and twentieth centuries.
The current renovations restore the lost glory which the architectural structure now radically changed by the
work that was made during the years.
Particular care has also been given to the graphics and publishing of the book, which apparatus is illustrative
with the rich and extraordinary photographic archive material belonging to the Organisation.
