The artistic properties owned by the Ospedale Maggiore are more than 2,800, including
paintings, sculptures and objects of various types, dating from the sixteenth to the
twenty-first century, as well as historic buildings and use of various kinds.
Cornerstone of the collections is the famous Picture Gallery, which contains portraits
of the benefactors that by their generosity supported the hospital. These paintings
commissioned by the institution without interruption from 1602 to today (there are over
920 paintings), whose authors are artists working in the Lombardy, among which, to name a
few, Salomon Adler, Giacomo Ceruti said “the Pitocchetto£ Anton Francesco Biondi, Francesco
Hayez, Giuseppe Molteni, Giuseppe Bertini, Domenico and gerolamo Induno, Giovanni Segantini,
Emilio Longoni, Gaetano Previati, Angelo Morbelli, Francesco Casorati, Mario Sironi, Massimo
Campigli, Carlo Carra, Emilio Tadini. In addition to the priceless artistic importance, the Picture
Gallery is imposed by the complexity of its perspectives: historical, anthropological and social. Of
great importance are also the series of portraits of presidents and prominent doctors who worked for
the hospital.

houses of worship as well as by many farms (from which a series of 33 bronze bells), located in Milan and
in Lombardy countryside. The churches and the speakers can boast works by artists such as Francesco Barbieri
