The library collections of the Foundation IRCSS Ca’ Granda Hospital, represent a unique
nationally as breadth and specialization of library collections, ranging from 1476 to mid-twentieth
century. The assets, limited to the medical sciences, is estimated at about 100,000 printed volumes,
including monographs, periodicals and miscellaneous pamphlets.
Although the history of the collection begins with the creation of the Hospital itself, the core
is constituted by the Library of Medicine, founded in 1846 to update physicians and increased later
on by several bequests and donations.
