The volume contains a chronology of events "most salient" in the words of the archivist Pietro Canetta, of Ospedale Maggiore from its origins to 1884 (publication date), distributed by subjects. The data are the result of a survey carried out by examination of the official acts and orders of all administration board. Although "work [was] born as a research tool aimed at hospitaller Representation and archivists rather than spreading to the general public", is now a valuable introduction to the history of the institution, full of news and anecdotes.
